Registration

Children must be 3 years old by September 1 and toilet trained. Parents must fill out the registration form and remit a $50 registration fee (non-refundable) to reserve a place for their child. The registration fee covers all continuous attendance, including that spanning multiple years.

Tuition

Tuition is $990 per year for the two day preschool and $1260 annually for the three day pre-kindergarten. Payment options include:

· Paying equal payments on the first day of school each month ($110 and $140 respectively), due September through May.
· Paying in full at the beginning of the school year.  A 5% discount is offered for anyone wishing to pay the entire year’s tuition at the beginning of the year.  ($940 for the two day and $1197 for the three day).

Should there be more than one child attending the same session from the same family, a 10% discount is given to the second child’s tuition. There will be no refunds or credits for absences or for unscheduled cancellations.
Checks should be made payable to “Shining Light Preschool”. Please give checks directly to the teacher or administrator. Do not send payment with your child.

Enrollment Cancellations

It is assumed that when you register, it is for the full school year. If the decision is made to cancel enrollment mid-year, you are responsible for paying out the remainder of the trimester. If there is a need to end enrollment mid-trimester, notice is requested as soon as possible, with a minimum of two weeks notice. If there are extenuating circumstances, exceptions or modifications can be made with the approval of the Board of Education/Preschool Board.

Leave of Absences

If, during the course of the year a student takes a leave of absence, payment is required for the remainder of the trimester. The student’s spot in the class will be reserved as long as the payment continues. Two weeks notice is requested prior to a leave. Once payment is ceased, the spot is no longer reserved and will be released if needed for a new student. An enrollment fee must be resubmitted to restart the program after any unpaid leave.

Health

Your child’s health is a matter of importance to us all. This policy is designed to ensure the health of all students and adults in contact with the preschool. When children are ill, please keep them home and call the preschool as soon as possible to inform the teacher of the absence. The preschool does not have facilities available for the care and comfort of sick students.

Children should not attend preschool if they exhibit the following symptoms:
· Barking cough
· Discolored heavy nasal discharge
· Rash
· Fever/high temperature
· Watery/crusty/pink eyes
· Vomiting/diarrhea
· Symptoms of any communicable illness
Children having any episode of fever, vomiting, or diarrhea must remain out of school for a full 24 hours after the last episode of fever/vomiting/diarrhea has occurred.

If a child becomes ill while at school, the child will be isolated from the other students and the parent or guardian will be contacted immediately. The child may not return to school until he or she has been symptom free for 24 hours.

 THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
The first day of school can be a very happy or unhappy experience for your child. By your words and actions on the first day you can help him/her. We suggest you place your child in the hands of the teacher, assure him/her that you return to get them and then leave promptly. When the child realizes you are not available, he/she will accept the teacher’s guidance more readily.

Clothing and Personal Belongings

Please dress your child in comfortable play clothes and tennis shoes which they can manage themselves. Clothing should be durable and washable. Encourage your child to leave purses, money, candy and toys at home to avoid being misplaced or forgotten.
Snacks

Children will be expected to bring their own small snack and drink each day. Something healthy is preferable.

Field Trips

Due to transportation laws for childcare/preschool facilities, and child safety seat guidelines we generally do not take field trips.

Communication with Parents

Open communication between the parents and teacher is vital. Notes will be sent home each week with information about our activities. Please feel free to discuss any concerns about your child with the teacher. Parent-teacher conferences will be offered to parents who so desire. Please feel free to stop in and visit the class at any time.

Severe Weather Acknowledgement

During the year, if severe weather occurs, Shining Light Preschool will be closed. Parents will be notified by phone and/or e-mail of any closings. If the Osseo Public School District (District 279) is closed, the preschool will also be closed. If there is an early closing, all parents will be notified to take their children home as soon as possible.

Discipline

Children will be dealt with constructively at all times. The teacher will use love, encouragement and praise, with an emphasis on desirable characteristics.

Student Dismissal

1. Discipline and Behavior: Students shall exhibit proper Christian behavior as per instructor guidelines.
2. Financial: Parents will meet their financial responsibilities in a timely manner as noted above.
Should either of the above guidelines be violated, student dismissal procedures may be initiated.

Curriculum

Shining Light offers a comprehensive Christian curriculum for three and four year preschoolers, with an emphasis on academic and social kindergarten readiness. With this in mind we teach age appropriate pre-reading and pre-writing skills as well as a variety of social skills.

Students will be introduced to letters and numbers, learn to identify basic shapes, colors, and patterns. They will engage in a variety of fine motor skills designed to develop their cutting skills as well as prepare them for writing. These skills are promoted throughout the school year through the use of weekly or bi-weekly themes.

Students are also taught basic social skills that will ready them for elementary school. Students learn to take turns in games, activities, and in conversations. They learn how to line up, and how to raise their hand to ask a question. They will learn independence and how to function in a group of peers. They will be encouraged to explore and try new things and gain confidence in doing so.

Most importantly, education at Shining Light is Christ centered. Each day students are taught about the love and forgiveness of Jesus their Savior. Each week students are taught a different Bible lesson, progressing though both the Old and New Testaments. Shining Light follows and teaches the doctrines of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod.
